What 5D emboss really means

"5D emboss" typically means a layered relief with at least two height steps (regular 3D has one step at ~1.5mm), achieved by deeper die-cutting and multiple forming passes — three visual levels (foreground/midground/background). Example: a cake emboss sticker has a 1.0mm base + 1.5mm cake body + 2.0mm cream piping. Three different heights, three visual steps — that is the "5D" claim. Most sellers labeled 5D with only one step are repackaging standard 3D.

How to verify material and die quality

• Material: 5D emboss needs PVC foam (EVA is too soft to hold multi-layer depth), 1.5-2.0mm base, white substrate for multi-layer color separation
• Die: 5D needs multi-layer dies — main cut + depth cut + emboss cut. Ask "how many knives per design?" — 5D typically uses 3+
• Forming: 5D cannot be done in one pass — at least two-stage forming (full sheet first, then depth)
• Height difference: press with your finger to feel layers — 5D must have ≥0.5mm difference, otherwise it's a flat fake

• Cross-section check: ask the factory to cut a sample cross-section — only multi-layer structures qualify as true 5D
• Knife count: <3 knives is 3D faking — 5D needs 3+ knives
• Forming passes: one-pass vs multi-pass — 5D needs at least two passes
• Material grade: PVC foam grade — ordinary vs high-resilience; 5D needs high-resilience PVC for spring-back
